Foot Solutions customer Seamus Lynch recently completed the Marathon Des Sables 2023, the toughest footrace on Earth, after months of intense physical and psychological training. This 250km 6-day journey across the Sahara Desert requires the competitor to carry everything (apart from water) required to survive.

“Temperatures above 50 degrees Centigrade and the myriad of challenges presented by the physically and emotionally challenging journey through the Sahara, meant that this year 1 in 3 competitors didn’t finish the race.



Each evening of the race saw hundreds of athlete’s hobble to the medical tents to have medical personnel attend to feet issues including blisters, inflammation and grazing brought on by the heat, sweat and ever pervading sand crystals.

Shoes are the most important piece of equipment and their performance dictated how well the athlete competed.

For the last number of years doing marathons and Ironman events I’ve been extremely lucky to have been supported and guided in matters of the feet by Ellen at Foot Solutions in Limerick, Ireland. Ellen has been a vital part of my preparation and while she considers my events to be a little mad, she always delivers! I competed in the Marathon Des Sables 2023 in Brooks Cascadia 16’s and they delivered faultlessly.
